6/10/20  Getting Back to School Safely in 2020-2021 Survey

Next Year Survey For Families

Hello Parents/Guardians,

The District would like your input about next year and students returning to school.  Please take this short survey to help the District.

By answering the questions, you will help us best prepare to meet the needs of students in the 2020-2021 school year as we consider health and safety logistics and resources for school buildings and transportation practices. Please complete a separate survey FOR EACH OF YOUR CHILDREN currently enrolled in the Springfield Public Schools or planning to enroll for the 2020-2021 school year.
Thank You
Mr. McCann & Mr. Neal

5/1/20  Mobile Food Bank at Trinity Church

Trinity Church at 361 Sumner Ave. will have food available for pick up on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month beginning May 6th.  Hours of pick up are 1:30 pm-2:30 pm and families can either drive up or walk up.  Please feel free to take advantage of this service.

5/1/20  Students Getting Replacement Laptops

Starting the week of May 4th, IT will be working with VanPool to deliver laptops to students with an inoperable laptop.  Deliveries will be made on Tuesdays and Thursdays by VanPool (requests received by Thursdays at midnight will be delivered on the following Tuesday and requests received by Monday at midnight will be delivered on Thursdays).  The ONLY WAY for students to request a replacement is to reach out to IT via the Student Help Desk in MS Teams (which is accessible from smartphones).  Phone calls or emails to members of the IT department will not result in a replacement device.

If IT determines that the computer cannot be repaired remotely, the student/family will be given a link that will allow them to complete a request form (we also cannot provide a replacement if the student or family have not followed the directions provided by IT to resolve issues remotely).  VanPool has been instructed not to provide a replacement unless the broken device is returned along with the power cord.

Hola Sumner Ave. Families,

We are receiving many calls about laptops and logging in.  The SPS Facebook page has a couple of step by step videos posted that can walk you through the initial process along with some trouble shooting tips. We have also included the link on the Home page.

The Springfield Public Schools will be observing the already scheduled April Vacation (April 20 - April 24). Students will not have scheduled work during that time.

Again, we thank you for your patience as we continue to move forward during this unprecedented time in our lives. We hope you are all doing well and we can't wait to see our Sumner Avenue Families soon.

Mr. McCann & Mr. Neal

4/9/20------Laptop Distribution

Hi Sumner Ave. Families,

Our laptop pickup day was yesterday and we delivered about 50 computers today.  It was great to see our Sumner Ave. parents and even some students.  We all could use the smiles and they were very welcomed by everyone.

We know there have been issues with folks receiving the RoboCalls.  If you missed picking up your child's computer we will again be at the school to hand them out on Tuesday, 4/14, from 11:00am -1:00pm. It is also important that we have updated phone numbers so that you can start getting those RoboCalls.

Also we know there will be issues with computers not working properly. Please use the instructions that were included with the computer. The link to these is also provided above. If the initial start up directions are missed, many times a walk to the nearest Springfield school and starting up/shutting down the computer a couple of times will fix any issues.  As we are all working remotely we will answer your calls within 24 hours so please be patient.

We hope this finds you well.

Mr. McCann & Mr. Neal

4/6/20-------Laptop Information

Hello Sumner Ave. Families,

For those who registered for computers through the district this Wednesday, 4/8 will be for computer pick up. Those that needed computers delivered will receive those on Thursday, 4/9.  We have spread out the pick up times to allow for, what we hope anyway, will be a less congested parking lot around the school.  Please adhere to the scheduled times as we also ask for your patience and understanding.

The pick up schedule times are:
1st Grade---10:00am-11:00am
2nd Grade---11:00am-12:00pm
3rd Grade---12:00pm-1:00pm
4th Grade---1:00pm-2:00pm
5th Grade---2:00pm-3:00pm

Again, it will be important to show up at your scheduled times to help with the congestion and our famous Sumner Ave. traffic.

Thank you,

Mr. McCann & Mr. Neal

4/2/20---------Laptop Information

Hi Sumner Ave. Families,

Great job registering for computers for your K-5 students.  We have over 200 laptops that we are currently cleaning and updating.  Please be on the look out for more information regarding the pick up date and times. We are going to stagger the pick up times by grade level so, again, please be on the look out for more information here as well as a Robocall.

Thanks Everyone,

Mr. McCann & Mr. Neal

Important Information Regarding Computers for Students

Dear Sumner Ave. Families.

Does your child need a lap top computer, but they do not have one at home? If so, Springfield Public Schools would like to make one available for your child in an effort to help ensure that every student has access to the technology they need to continue learning and communicating with their teachers during this school closure.

SPS will provide a laptop computer to any student who does not have access to a computer at home. You must register by this Wednesday if you want to receive a laptop for your student. To register to receive a laptop for your student, visit the district’s website at You can complete this form on a cell phone.

Laptops will be passed out during the week of April 6th. You can either pick up a laptop from your child’s school or have it delivered to your home – both will use social distancing guidelines to help keep our community safe.

Don’t forget registrations must be completed by Wednesday if you want to receive a laptop for your student.

Thank you,

Mr. McCann-Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,

WE wanted to give a quick update as the Governor extended school closures until May 4th.

Grade level meetings are taking place over the next couple of days.  Grade levels will be creating and submitting review lessons for students to access while at home. Once these resources are compiled we will post them in the Online Learning Resources 2020 link above. We hope to have these resources posted on Wednesday, April 1st.

Please stay tuned as we will update this website as new information comes in from the State and/or District.

We want to wish everyone well.  We will get through this as we are #Sumner Strong.

Mr. McCann & Mr. Neal

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you and your families are doing well during this challenging time. On behalf of the Sumner Avenue Staff, we want to let you know that we are here to support students and families. The district is providing work packets and has a list of learning resources on their webpage. You can also contact your children’s teachers through email. Addresses are listed on Sumner’s staff directory page. If you need help you can call the school’s number, and we will get back to you within 24 hours. School counselors Apryl Thomas, Kyle Robert, and Esther Santiago are available to provide resources for counseling and community support services. Our staff is working from home but are available throughout the day.

Please listen to phone calls from the district and school regarding important updates.

In closing, we wish you and your family the very best.
